Make it Sew!

I can’t believe October has come and gone. But that means it’s Halloween – my favourite time of year!

I’d like to share with you my two latest costumes, which always seem to involve at least a little bit of sewing.

Last year I dressed up the one and only Dog the Bounty Hunter. I made a muscle suit out of a fleshy coloured tshirt and some pantyhose. Basically I cut the sleeves off of the tshirt and sewed the legs of the pantyhose to replace them (with the feet cut off of course). Then I made “muscles” out of more pantyhose and fibrefill stuffing and stuffed them in the arms. Then it was all about the hair (and feathers).

This year I went as Captain Picard
(complete with crappy iphone photos that look like they were taken in the 90s):

I used this pattern to make a ladies TNG jumpsuit (seasons 1-2). I have to say, the maker of this pattern did a HELL OF A JOB. The jumpsuit is super comfy, flattering, and very accurate to the uniforms on the tv show. I want to LIVE in this thing and am considering making in another colour.

I couldn’t find a bald cap that didn’t cost a bajillion dollars, so I used some stretchy fleshy material – probably like a bathing suit liner – and made a hat – complete with fun fur hair.

I used double knit fabrics for this pattern and installed an invisible zipper in the front.

Here’s a picture with some ‘tude:

And just for fun:
