Show and Tell: My First (And Only) Quilt

I wanted to share with you the first quilt I ever made!

I learned a ton about quilting while making this one since I made my fair share of mistakes (or more than my fair share, if you ask me…).  If you’re interested in learning to quilt I’d definitely recommend two books that I read: The New Quilting by Machine by Singer and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Quilting by Laura Ehrlich.  I actually used the colour scheme and design of a quilt in the second book for this quilt — I just love that cerulean blue!

Most of the fabrics for this quilt are second-hand, which was a great way to save money and to find some unique fabrics.  The backing is a really nice lavender queen-sized bedsheet that I bought from a thrift store.  I’ll definitely be doing that again, because it saved me the hassle of piecing together a backing, and it was so much cheaper.

I really want to make my next quilt out of 100% second-hand fabrics.  I think it would be really cool to use all men’s dress shirts — the different tiny stripes and plaids and muted colour scheme would look amazing.
…If I ever get around to starting it, that is!
